There's something very unique about all of a sudden finding yourself alone in a different country. It's even more strange when it's quite sudden, and you don't know how you got there, and where you're really going. There is quote that says, "Never less alone then when alone".
I think there are people who disagree with that, and then there are those of us who just get exactly what that means. Thankfully we all have the capability to be social - it's what makes the world go round, but I definitely believe that the finest decisions, the moments of enlightenment and the tears of progress happen when alone.

Consider that when we feel down, when we have bitter moments and the silver lining seems a long way off, we are the ones who have to get up and say "this is courage", we are the ones who have to say "with God all things are possible". There's a man who lived through world war two. He spent time in Auschwitz and observed the ultimate power of human endurance. He found that a few people in the thousands he saw, demonstrated the ability to still sacrifice when they had nothing to sacrifice. He saw that in some, happiness and courage was entirely independent of their circumstance. That quality of character comes from private moments of decision, private contemplation of others behaviour and a honest evaluation of our own. It's exciting to realize that we can have happiness and light burning in us even when encompassed by the dark or when we have days that are just completely rotten.
